Resident Evil: Operation Raccoon City

Product Description

Resident Evil: Operation Raccoon City, a collaboration between Capcom and Vancouver based studio Slant 6 Games, is scheduled for release this Winter. This latest offering will take the series in a completely new direction and offer a style of gameplay yet to be seen from the franchise. Resident Evil: Operation Raccoon City delivers a true third person team based shooter experience set within the dark and sinister Resident Evil universe. The setting of the Resident Evil universe not only provides a rich backdrop to the action but delivers a unique and thrilling triple threat battle. Zombies and Bio-Organic Weapons (B.O.W's) add to the mix as players not only compete against their team's opposing squad but also tackle this third unpredictable element that could only exist in the twisted Resident Evil universe, creating a brand new style of gameplay and breaking the conventions of traditional team based shooters. It is September 1998 and the action centers on the ill-fated Raccoon City and the horrific consequences of the deadly T-virus outbreak. With a cover up required, Umbrella orders an elite team into Raccoon City to destroy all evidence of the outbreak and eliminate any survivors. Meanwhile the US Government has quarantined the city and dispatched its own team of elite soldiers to determine the source of the mysterious outbreak. Players take on the role of an Umbrella Security Service soldier (U.S.S.), competing alone or in up to four player co-op in a battle against all the competing forces at play in Raccoon City.

Story

It is September 1998 and the action centers on the ill-fated Raccoon City. When the Umbrella Corporation learns that one of its top scientists, Dr. William Birkin, plans to sell the experimental G-Virus to the US Government they order an elite team of Umbrella Security Service (U.S.S.) soldiers led by Hunk into their secret research facility to secure the only known sample of the virus. The operation takes a turn for the worse when Dr. Birkin injects himself with the last vial, mutating into a deadly creature, G-Birkin and over powering the team. During the battle the deadly T-Virus is leaked into the sewers and spread through Raccoon City, infecting the entire population.

Hearing of the outbreak, the U.S.S. team is given fresh orders to destroy all evidence of Umbrella's involvement and silence anyone that might discover the truth. The Umbrella Biohazard Countermeasure Service (U.B.C.S.) are also deployed to help contain the situation. Meanwhile the US Government has quarantined the city and dispatched its own team of special operatives to determine the source of the mysterious outbreak. Caught up in the chaos are rookie police officer Leon S. Kennedy and Claire Redfield.

As others have noted this game does not play like either the early RE games or RE4 or RE5. This game has it's own "feel" to it, and at times reminded me a lot of SOCOM Confrontation or SOCOM 4, especially the features where you can revive your fallen teammates. However, the mechanics on this are not very good. For example, during the heat of battle when you need to revive your teammates you are more likely to "hit x" (on the PS3) and pick up some supplies rather than revive your teammate. This is especially problematic during the boss battles and instead of being able to revive your teammate you pick up a flash grenade that you didn't want anyway and then get killed while trying to revive a teammate. And the AI always seems to get themselves killed and never bother to pick up herbs or heal themselves even when the supplies are close by. There were a few missions that I just left them dead and finished it on my own. It isn't that the game play is difficult so much as it is bad... Read more

First of all am a huge fan of Resident evil series one of my best games ever since PS1 , and I really don't know what to say regarding operation Raccoon City if you are fan of resident evil you can't hate this game but you feel that there something wrong.
The good points of this game is:
1- The zombie are back finally and all original enemies such as the Hunters.
2- The bleeding and infection ideas are great but not well finalized.
3- The Melee attacks are nice and flexible but it is the same for all characters, in my opinion each character should have a special Melee attach and finishing move.
4- The variants of weapons are nice.

The Bad Points of this Game:
1- The game story is good but how they deliver it through this game is awful, the story mode is actual a mission base gameplay there is no story , you have to destroy some server then burn some papers .... Etc.
2- The new characters you start playing with them and you don't know who... Read more

I can see what the makers of this game were going for, but it turned out kind of messed up. The campaign is very good and a very interesting take on the events of Raccoon City, and the multiplayer is tons of fun, but where the game really dropped the ball was on the controls. The controls, although better than the recent over the shoulder Resident Evil titles, arent without their downfalls. It is very annoying that one cannot take cover manually, instead when you move near a wall or surface, the character automatically ducks behind it, or when needed, it doesnt do it at all. The aiming is also a complete mess. You have 2 kinds of aiming at the same time, the cross hairs and the laser pointer and both are very misleading. Although the cross hair can be in the perfect position for a headshot, the laser pointer is somewhere else on the screen, thus you miss the shot. Other times, you can have both dead aimed and you will somehow still miss the shot. This is especially true of the sniper... Read more
