I'll be discussing various parts of the game in this review.
ARCADE MODE
After enjoying all previous titles in the series, I was excited to get my hands on this one. I fired up Arcade mode from the Offline Play menu, selected a character, played through 6 battles, and...no character ending? What?!
That's right. There are no character endings in the game. Period. The only "ending" is in Story mode.
There's a few more offline play modes but they're just standard variations like Quick Battles, Training Mode, and Vs Mode.
STORY MODE
Story mode can be beaten in 3-4 hours. You start off playing as Sophitia's son, Patroklos, and then you will use 2 more characters as the story progresses through 20 battles.
Cutscenes consists of still black and white drawings. The acting is overly dramatic and the story itself is full of terrible writing, forced character archetypes, and illogical decisions and actions made by... Read more

Let me start off by saying this: If all you care about is online vs. play then this game is absolutely amazing and gets a 5 STAR OMG BUY THIS NOW RATING.
If you like the rest of the 99% of people who actually want some product for their money then read the rest of the review.
Soul Calibur V is probably the weakest title in the series. I mean this game has nothing to make you want to pop it back in and play it again once you beat story mode.
STORY MODE: Okay this is where the game was suppose to shine. It fails, that simple. Why? Well first off its barely even a "Story Mode". Second the story mode takes close to 3 hours to complete. Third, the story revolves around the new main characters Patroklos and Pyrrha, the son and daughter of Sophita. You get to actually play as Patroklos, Pyrrha, and Z.W.E.I through the story mode. That's it. You can't play as anyone other than these three characters and to... Read more

My brother and I have spent hundreds, maybe thousands, of hours each on this series since Soul Calibur on Dreamcast. Probably only about 100 of those hours went into single player. I'll agree with all the other reviewers that the single player experience in this game is lacking. Story mode is 2 hours of play. After that you have Quick Battle to earn 240 titles and Legendary Souls. The A ranked AI in those modes will eat your lunch if you are uninitiated. I consider it tough but very doable. It was somewhat easier than SC4's Tower of Souls. I'll remove one star for the single player. It just doesn't matter to me that much.
The meat of this game is in the fantastic online. The netcode is among the best in fighters. 4 or 5 bar connection is very close to playing on the same console. It is possible to block low attacks and punish on reaction.
THE ONLINE MODES:
RANKED: You play for online world rankings. By default the search for an opponent is set to... Read more

I writing this review after only a little bit of time with these but this is my first impression. The headset this is replacing is the Plantronics Gamecom style. Compared to those, these feel like a dream. Much lighter than you might expect which indicates that they have used a lot of plastic in the contsruction. Anyway, they look large but they don't feel heavy at all in my opinion. The memory foam cups feel really nice even with my glasses on. The one complaint I have in terms of comfort is that I prefer cloth to pleather and Corsair does not include the cloth ear cups in this like they used to in the HS1A. Mic seems fine but I have yet to try it in game. Cord and volume controller seem well constructed.
The articulation on the ear cups is a little odd. They will swing forward to almost flat but do not articular backwards barely at all. They seem comfortable on my head so there are no complaints about it. Just something I noticed.

Back on September 16, Corsair introduced their new Vengeance line of gaming headsets and peripherals. The Vengeance 1500 headset is the follow up to the Corsair HS1, one of the best gaming headsets available, at any price. The new Corsair Vengeance 1500 USB gaming headset is based on the Corsair HS1 USB headset and now looks as good as it sounds.
PROS: - Great sound quality - Very comfortable - New aggressive appearance - Replaceable earpads - Large, accurate 50mm drivers
CONS: - None
COMFORT When I reviewed the HS1 a few months back, I wrote that it was supremely comfortable, but that they were just a tad heavy and loose on my head. I'm happy to say that the 1500's fit better than the HS1 and stayed put during my testing. The 1500's still use the uber-comfy memory-foam... Read more

So I was looking for some 3d Surround Sound headphones and being a fan of corsair, I decided to ignore some reviewers and go with the majority opinion which seems to be fairly favorable.
When I first got them, they sounded all right, and an EQ in the driver console really brought out some great sound. Not heavy booming bass at all...nice clean sound. I was also very pleased with the sound of the microphone which is crystal clear and appropriate volume.
1 problem I had was that...being a former Razer Barracuda owner, when I read surround sound headphones, I took this to mean there are multiple speakers in the cans. Unfortunately this is a "simulated" surround sound..not a true surround sound...and I was a little disappointed because the surround experience I found to be very very lacking compared to the barracudas. (Dont buy the barracudas though, they have their own problems like bass unless you have razers soundcard or an x-fi)

Japan's Edo Period was drawing to a close. The shogunate, who'd held power in the country for more than 200 years, found itself challenged by the imperial court, and by several domains who had chaffed under shogunal rule. In this midst of this political unrest, an organization rose to prominence: The Shinsengumi. Originally formed to protect the street of Kyoto from master less samurai, they came to represent the last, tragic bastion of the honor-bound samurai culture that had defined much of Japan's history. In Hakuoki: Demon of the Fleeting Blossom, a young woman by the name of Chizuru comes to Kyoto in search of her missing father, and soon encounters danger and the Shinsengumi in quick succession. When it becomes clear the Shinsengumi are also searching for her father, Chizuru is put under their protection. But odd things are afoot in Kyoto-possibly even supernatural happenings. Can Chizuru navigate this maze of mortal danger and political intrigue? Amidst so much mystery and death, can she find romance?

One of the few example of the Japanese sub-genre of Otome, which centers on story-driven romance from a female perspective, the game features a unique blend of adventure and decision-dependant gameplay. Additional features include: multiple possible endings depending on choices made, and fluid anime style animation.
The limited edition release of Hakuoki: Demon of the Fleeting Blossom contains exclusive bonus items. See the complete list of these items below.

Hakuoki: Demon of the Fleeting Blossom Limited Edition Reviews
This review is from: Hakuoki: Demon of the Fleeting Blossom Limited Edition (Video Game)
The only thing I was worryied about with this English version of Hakuoki is that the company might not keep the original Japanese voice acting. I got the game on Feb 14 (from my local game stop, the amazon pre-ordered copy is still on the road) and yeah the voice acting is still in the original Japanese! Yes!
Hakuoki is one of the top names in Otome games, and apart from great character design and story lines, this game features some of the best voice actors in Japan, which to me is a must have for a visual novel style game.
I really hope this game can sell well in the US, so other games of this series can be introduced as well. And maybe some day Koei's neoromance games will also see its way in the US market.
============================================== One update after playing through the English version: I realized the English version does not include the extra story sections (hakuoki ibun-senyu emaki). In the Japanese psp version, you get... Read more

This review is from: Hakuoki: Demon of the Fleeting Blossom Limited Edition (Video Game)
Playing Hakuoki, I can see why this game has been such a huge success in Japan. I know a lot of reviews make it sound like this is a dating sim, but it is much more than that. Hakuoki takes place in the middle of a war that actually happened in real life. Most of the characters and events are (loosely) based off of real life, so there is a historical aspect to the game. But the fantasy and romance prevent it from getting bogged down with history.
The art is beautiful and the Japanese vocal cast is amazing. Idea Factory spared no expense with their voice actors, getting some of the top in the field.
As long as you feel comfortable playing a game from a female's prospective, I think that this game actually caters well to both genders. The only reason I could see someone not liking it is if they purchased it not knowing what a visual novel is. As the name implies, it is completely text-based with no actual game-play aside from choosing paths like in a... Read more

I bought this game off the PSN (so I could play it on my Vita when I get it) and I have been very satisfied with my purchase. Gaming has always been about the story and the characters to me and this game, while lacking in actual gameplay, has that. As you make your choices, you learn more and more about each of the characters, fleshing out the story and learning more about what the time period was like. The story takes quite a few liberties, combining supernatural elements with historical events. The artwork and the music is so beautiful, I'm actually considering buying the limited edition of the game off of Amazon just for the art book and the soundtrack. The game has a very handy rewind/fast forward option so you can replay certain events or fast forward through the text you already read if you choose to go back and choose a different option.
Disclaimer: This is a very text heavy game. If you don't like reading, don't buy it. If you think you would be bored making... Read more
