Razer Lachesis 5600dpi Gaming Mouse Reviews

Unfortunately that's where the fun ends because of Razer's ineptness to develop reliable drivers (I remember the old Lachesis' driver was also shaky, at best). On the first day I used the mouse it froze up two times, the mouse pointer stops dead and can't be moved anymore. The only solution is to unplug and reconnect the mouse or in worse cases reboot the system. Since then the mouse randomly freezes up, sometimes 2-3 times a days, sometimes it survives for a whole day.I've read many reviews about this mouse on the web that tell the same story like this, unfortunately I did this after I bought the mouse, not before. There's also another issue: The On-The-Fly DPI scale goes AWOL, sometimes after playing a game and always after above mentioned freezing and then reconnecting. For a mouse that costs ~70$ I'd expect it to work flawless, however... First off, I love this mouse. Everything feels great about it ergonomically, if you've had a Razer before you can expect the feel of the buttons to be just as crisp if not better than your old gear. It's a bit bigger than my old Copperhead mouse, and it's much more comfortable to use it with a Claw grip over a Palm grip in my opinion. The mouse goes up to 5600 DPI, but honestly I don't know anyone including myself that can handle that much sensitivity. The two buttons closest to the scroll wheel serve as the DPI switching on-the-fly by default, but this can be changed using the driver disc. The drivers will also allow you to tweak just about every setting you could imagine for your mouse, button functions, polling rate, x and y axis sensitivity, where you would like the... However the mouse just dies in the middle of operations and games. So far it has died in the middle of Total War: Shogun 2, Mass Effect 2 and 3, and Star Wars the Old Republic. When I say die, I should say suddenly die in the middle of combat or a crucial operation. I contacted Razer Tech Support and was directed to the 2.01 driver. I have to use this driver as it seems to correct the crashing, but the smoothness and accuracy of the mouse goes downhill and it gets very jumpy, even with my Razer mouse mat. I am very disappointed in how this expensive mouse operates. |
