Glory on the Go at the London Olympics
On your marks and get set for the world's greatest sporting event as Mario and Sonic head to the London 2012 Summer Olympic Games. Coming exclusively to 3DS for handheld play, Mario & Sonic at the London 2012 Olympic Games is an all new celebration of the Olympic spirit hosted within the truly iconic setting of London and bringing even more multiplayer fun and excitement to friends and families everywhere.
As in earlier releases in the Mario & Sonic Olympic series, the 2012 London game features characters from both the Nintendo and Sonic game universes, arrayed into Team Mario and Team Sonic allowing players to compete as their favorite characters in real world sporting events. Events found in the game include those seen in 2007's Bejing-themed Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games, along with new events such as balance beam, 20K race walk and the 100 meter breaststroke. Several of these new events utilize 3DS functionality to heighten the gameplay experience. For example, in the 100m breaststroke players must use the 3DS microphone to provide oxygen to participates as they come up for air, while in the balance beam event the gyroscope inside the 3DS challenges players to maintain their player character's balance. The game also ensures that players can share the competition and fun of the games with friends through its multi-card four-player wireless multiplayer support.

My parents got it for me the day it came out, and I played it immediately. The Wii version of this game looked incredible, so I thought it would be the same thing.But... I soon realized this version of "Mario and Sonic at the London 2012 Olympic Games" isn't all it's cracked up to be. If you think you're going to select your character at the beginning of the game, tough luck. Once you pick your mode, event and match, all the characters are split into five separate categories: "Heroes," "Wild Ones," "Girls," "Tricksters" and "Challengers." I was really disappointed by this. I expected to choose either Sonic, Mario or Yoshi and go on with the game. Boy, was I wrong. The controls are a mixed bag, and some of them require you to tip the 3DS and use its microphone... It Even Looks Better Then The Wii Version! And The 3D Looks Amazing. The Only Problem I Have With This Game Is Thta SOme Of The Events Have You Tilt The System And Ruins The 3D. Overall This Is A Great For Any Mario And Sonic Fan! 10/10. Wii Is Fun! 3DS Is...Sort Of...Fun..., = Fun: Amazon Verified Purchase This review is from: Mario & Sonic at the London 2012 Olympics (Video Game) When I played this game on the Wii, it was a lot of fun. I checked out the Demo of the 3DS, and I instantly enjoyed it. Then I bought the game. While it isn't terrible, it could be a lot better. The pros of the game come from the great 3D visuals, the story mode (It adds a nice touch, but the Olympic Winter Games is better because you had more freedom of choice and movement.), and that the game uses nearly all of the 3DS's features, which is great. The cons of the game come from the character limitations to each event (You can only choose characters from within a set group.), how the events are done, and the amount of events in the game (While a lot is good, they can be presented a lot better.). Overall, this is a decent game. Not terrible, but definitely rent-worthy. |
