5.0 out of 5 stars Once Again The Best Baseball Game, March 6, 2012

= Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: MLB 12 The Show (Video Game)
I've been playing The Show since the 2006 iteration, and have purchased every version since. Last year marked the biggest changes to the series by adding full analog controls, Move support (if only in the Home Run Derby mode), and completely revamping the Road to the Show mode. They also replaced Rex Hudler (bleck!) with Eric Karros (yes!) which appealed quite a bit to my Dodgers blue blood. While this year's version doesn't offer the same type of sweeping changes, the game continues to improve on the functions added last year and continues to strive for realism.

Here's a breakdown of the game with strengths and weaknesses.

GAMEPLAY: The biggest change this year is the pitching format. Pulse pitching replaces the meter with a pulsing circle that you place around the strike zone. Time the circle so that it's at its smallest point, and you get the most accurate pitches. The better the control of the pitcher (and the particular pitches), the slower and smaller the... Read more

4.0 out of 5 stars Load Your Sliders EVERY TIME you load the game; Avoid TV Input Lag, March 10, 2012
= Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars
Amazon Verified Purchase( What's this?)
This review is from: MLB 12 The Show (Video Game)
Let me start by saying I am a casual sports gamer in my mid 40's with a family so I am lucky to get a couple of hours of gaming in a week. I have played (but don't own) MLB 10 and MLB 11 and although I was impressed with the graphics, etc., the hitting seemed too hard to me so I avoided purchasing those games. After checking into the game a bit more and getting caught up in the hype of a new release, I realized you can adjust the sliders and camera views quite a bit so I decided to try the game this year and bought it from Amazon with game-day release.

After playing around with it a bit, I realized I had to adjust the pitch speed all the way down and bump my hitting timing all the way up (in the sliders) to help with the hitting but after some practice it's coming around and I'm really enjoying this game. HOWEVER, MAKE SURE YOU LOAD YOUR CUSTOM SLIDERS EVERY TIME YOU PUT IN THE GAME. FOR WHATEVER REASON, YOUR CUSTOM SLIDERS DO NOT WORK AS THE DEFAULT. Further, it's... Read more

5.0 out of 5 stars Again, #1 Baseball Game + slight improvements, March 6, 2012
= Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: MLB 12 The Show (Video Game)
Without a doubt, Sony's MLB The Show series is heads above the 2k series. Plain & simple, it's the best baseball game year in & year out (like NBA 2K vs. NBA Live, no contest). Therefore, The Show competes against itself and to their credit (unlike Madden), they continue to push the envelope and make changes that enhance gameplay & strategy. This year, The Show has made two significant changes in the two most important aspects -- pitching and hitting. In addition, ball physics are more real than ever before.

PRESENTATION (9/10): Excellent as usual. Easy to navigate menus with a nice baseball feel. Commentary is excellent & delivered by the 3-man team of Matt Vasgersian, Dave Campbell & Erik Karros. Despite some of the commentary being similar to '11, listening to them is like listening to a real game & unlike most sports games, it hardly gets repetitive and enhances the experience. There are tons of camera angles cutting between players, benches & the crowd. The stadiums'... Read more

Mario Party 9

Product Description

Grab your friends and family and captain the crew to victory! The party is back and bigger than ever in the Mario Party 9 game for Wii, featuring all-new ways to play! For the first time in the franchise, boss battles crash the party and challenge players to compete to defeat a common enemy. In addition, players now travel across stages together in a vehicle towards a common goal - overcoming obstacles, battling bosses, and collecting Mini Stars stolen by Bowser and his minions. Featuring 80 new minigames, adventurous new stages, and all-new ways to play that blend cooperative and competitive action for up to four players, Mario Party 9 is the perfect way to get the party started. No time to play through an entire stage? New minigame modes let players enjoy the action in smaller chunks of time. They can hone their skills at any minigame in Free Play mode or try the Extras mode that includes Goomba Bowling and the puzzle-based Castle Clear out.

  • Players ride across stages together in special vehicles. Players take turns as Captain of the vehicle by hitting Dice Blocks to move the party forward, hoping to land on lucky spaces.
  • From Toad Road to Boo's Horror Castle, players will encounter a wide variety of familiar Mario franchise elements in new environments that can be enjoyed solo or with friends.
  • In Mario Party 9, each themed stage has a clear destination point but with multiple paths along the way, so no two games will play the same. Every time they play, players can earn Party Points that are used to unlock special items and features.
  • Each stage culminates in a Boss Battle. Collectively, players must combine their strength to defeat classic foes such as Bowser and King Boo while still playing competitively to boost their own individual scores.
  • Includes 80 outrageous new minigames that find players making pizzas, escaping haunted mansions, and racing snowmobiles

5.0 out of 5 stars A much-needed reboot of the series, may disappoint longtime fans., March 11, 2012
= Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Mario Party 9 (Video Game)
I've been an avid player of the Mario Party series, particularly with its involvement in a fierce rivalry between myself and my siblings. With that said, I am HAPPY with the adjustments that Nintendo has made to what has become a formulaic series.

Perhaps the biggest change longtime fans will recognize is that individual movement has now been reduced to all players riding in a car, traversing the board together. If it is your turn to roll the dice, you are the "Captain" and any space you land on will affect you, not the party (not always the case, however). Right off the bat, there are no coins to collect any more. Instead, you collect mini-stars which are scattered across the board (player with the most at the end wins) and are rewards for mini-games, which leads me to the next biggest change. Mini-games are now only played when a player lands on a designated minigame spot or lands on a spot that is hidden with a minigame (additionally, you the Captain choose the... Read more

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Party Game!, March 12, 2012
= Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Mario Party 9 (Video Game)
There are a few things I love about this addition to the Mario Party series.

1.) The graphics and animations are much smoother, both traversing the board and within each minigame, than that of Mario Party 8. I credit some of this to the fact that the game now supports widescreen televisions (no more black borders).

2.) All characters travel together, which makes faster gameplay. The spaces on the board keep the action fresh, including stars actually located on the map. This goes in tandem with each person assuming the role of "captain" on their turn. There are events on each map in which the captain can seperate players or dole out items, which forces players to consider their moves a few turns in advance.

3.) You can eliminate computer players and still play the same levels. No condensed levels or objectives are available for computer or non-computer gameplay (as opposed to Mario Party 8).

This game is fun in every capacity. Fans of... Read more

5.0 out of 5 stars Refreshing New Twist on Mario Party!!, March 12, 2012
= Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Mario Party 9 (Video Game)
Mario Party 9 delivers a refreshing new twist with everyone riding in the same car. The captain is whoever's turn it is at the time. Yes you collect mini stars and I think this is a lot better because you are collecting them all over the board and not just trying to get to 1 star on the board. Also various spots on the board have different numbers of stars, seems to be 3, 5 or 10 stars.

There is a part in each board where whoever rolled into a certain section of the board will be the captain and they will pick who rolls 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th. Now for example there is one where you chase a rat. The object here is for the captain to set it up so they are the ones to roll so they catch the rat. The rat also has his own die to roll so he is moving too. When we played this tonight we ended up rolling so low the captain never got a turn because the rat escaped. So these types of new things on the board itself is fun and requires some strategy and thinking.

MINI... Read more
