5.0 out of 5 stars Great Game with Minor Flaws, October 13, 2011
= Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Rune Factory: Tides of Destiny (Video Game)
After finishing Rune Factory Frontier on the Wii and putting many, many hours into the game, I was looking forward to this new Rune Factory title. It's a great game that reminds me a bit of several other games like Mario Sunshine (the town you are in is like a Mediterranean beach resort), Zelda Wind Waker (since you explore the ocean and even have a sea chart), as well as Kingdom Hearts (based on the real time action fighting). Overall though, it's a difficult game to describe since there is so much to do in it. It's really a mix of a lot of elements, so if you're looking for a true JRPG or SIM, you won't get that but instead a nice hybrid. I did my best to note below the good, bad, and okay points about the game:

The Good:

- Hours upon hours of exploration, side quests, character customization and development, and collecting is available. It's easy to get absorbed in the game.
- Catchy music, funny dialogue, interesting and lively characters, and good... Read more

5.0 out of 5 stars Some changes for Rune Factory fans, accessible for action rpg fans., October 30, 2011
= Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Rune Factory: Tides of Destiny (Video Game)
I really enjoy the Rune Factory series, and purchased this game as soon as it was available. The series is very easy to play, and anyone should be able to finish the game, regardless of skill level. Gamers who are looking for a challenge should really look somewhere else. This is a relaxing game with no time limits, and many options for how to spend the game days. The areas are beautiful to look at and the music is pleasant.

Let me first discuss general features for people who like RPGs but are not familiar with Rune Factory.

Battle System
The battle system in this game is entirely action based, and real time. If you need to heal, you'll need to have a sufficient time without taking damage for your character to finish eating or drinking the healing item. There is no healing spell. However, if you need to go into the menu - whether to change weapons, or hold a healing item, it goes to a pause screen.

Leveling happens with each weapon type... Read more

5.0 out of 5 stars Incredibly Fun And Incredibly Addictive As You Play, October 12, 2011
= Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars
Amazon Verified Purchase( What's this?)
This review is from: Rune Factory: Tides of Destiny (Video Game)
The first and foremost about this game is you have to have played or be a fan of the series, if you're a more hardcore fighting bloody RPG gamer who likes are more toward the side of games like Elder Scrolls and the like then this game might not be as fun for you then. The first big plus is that the controls are pretty easy to master so no worries about having to learn a hundred button combos or anything to defeat the monsters, also if you've played the game Rue Factory frontier and were annoyed with the Runey system then you're in luck as that part has been cast away from this game. The fighting abilities of your player have been enhanced from the previous mentioned RF game as you can now have two weapon melee fights as well as the ability to jump which wasn't added with the previous mentioned game. The character and background designs are pretty reminiscent of the Rune factory games and while the video graphics quality is very good don't expect stunning character or background... Read more

3.0 out of 5 stars A Stranger on my Drive, October 18, 2011
= Fun:3.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Might & Magic Heroes VI (DVD-ROM)
A new Heroes is here, and it comes with many changes. I have played ALL previous titles of this series and all the add-ons, so I feel entitled to review this 6th iteration of my favorite game.

I welcome new ideas in this series. I actually enjoyed many of the game mechanic changes of Heroes 4, which many die-hard-fans hated. Yet, despite the horrible artwork, character and creature design Heroes 4 felt like a Heroes game.

I did not follow the development of Heroes 6 on forums and fan pages, just bought it as it came out and delved right in. I bought hard copy DVD version, I like manuals and such, but there is no nice little booklet. Disappointment could have just used the download version. While you could pick up any of the previous titles and feel right at home, Heroes 6 is a stranger, at best a second cousin on your step mom's side.

There is a load of changes that require your attention before you even start to play the actual game.

4.0 out of 5 stars Mild improvement overall from Heroes V, map editor included (and let me clear up what's online and offline), October 13, 2011
= Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Might & Magic Heroes VI (DVD-ROM)
The appeal of the "Heroes of Might and Magic" (HOMM) series of games is the unique blending of role-playing and strategy that effectively offers some of the best aspects of both genres. HOMM1 came out in 1995 and became an instant classic. And now, with a slight name change, the sixth installment "Heroes VI" is released, retaining the turn-based fantasy experience while adding a few notable changes to the underlying gameplay.

One of the major changes is that all heroes and creatures now have separate might and magic stats, such as might attack, magic attack, might defense, magic defense, and so on. In older HOMM games, they had only one set of stats that applied to melee combats only, and had no defense against spells. In Heroes VI, when spells are cast against you, you actually have a magic defense stat that gives you some protection. Essentially this gives you some magic resistance that you may not have otherwise.

Another big change is there is much more... Read more

1.0 out of 5 stars Pathetic, October 15, 2011
= Fun:1.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Might & Magic Heroes VI (DVD-ROM)
I cannot believe what can be passed off as a complete game these days.

Lets ignore the fact that I am once again forced to create an account to play my own game, fair enough, every game is doing that now.

It's the mind numbing amount of things that got through Beta that annoys me.

I start my game, oh that's odd, my cursor is continually flashing as if it wants to give me a seizure. Ok... I'll go check out the site, hmm its seems that's quite common, they will fix it when they have time, otherwise thanks for 60 bucks and try to ignore it.

Fine, I'll try to ignore it.

Hey this game ain't bad, that was a great boss fight. You have lost connection. Excuse me? That's right, if you lose connection to their unstable server you are immediately booted out of your single player campaign... geeesh I hope you recently saved. I have been playing for three hours and this has happened four times.

Fine! I'll play some multiplayer with... Read more
