The controllers are nice, although they aren't quite as heavy as the true SNES counterparts. The Retro Duo Twin system itself is heavy and has excellent venting for heat control. It has played all my old games so far, including contra, super mario kart, mortal kombat, etc. My major complaints are that the NES game cartridges are hard to eject (you have to really tug to get them free) and that some games seem like the colors and sounds are not 100% emulated (Super Mario Bros 3 for example.) This is mostly an issue with the NES part of the system, the SNES side of the Retro Duo Twin so far works flawlessly. This console plays pretty much every game cartridge I throw at it... including imports!* The Retro Duo is pretty compact compared to the classic consoles. Stack 3 NES games on top of each other and you basically have the size and weight of this. The 2 SNES controllers it comes with are also pretty light compared to the classics. The console offers your choice of either standard RCA (red, white, yellow) or S-Video TV connectors. The Retro Duo also has a small but functional cooling system. And before I forget, let me assure you that the Retro Duo does NOT conflict with the fragile save systems of NES games. Your Legend of Zelda file will be just fine. Now, this console does have a few drawbacks. First and probably most important: it only has SNES controller ports. So all your NES accessories, like the Zapper, cannot be used with the... First I am impressed by the concept and the top loading design. First game I threw at it was lifeforce for nes and it worked right away without blowing on it or reseting it. After playing for awhile I noticed that a lot of the sound effects were off. A lot of them were higher pitched and the music seemed to labor at times and even miss whole notes completly. The game itself seemed to work fine but I just couldnt get over the sound difference. Needless to say I returned it and I got a nes2 toploader off ebay for a little more. Still a good product but not for those who want a true nes replacement, there is no substitute. Great Idea but not quite there. I paid $49. I could of even paid less, but they were out of stock and there were some sales I missed so I settled to pay the $49 at Walgreens. Still not a bad price. I can't compare the gameplay to the Flashback 1 or 2, but I find the Flashback 3 to entertain my need for the games I grew up with. It does not contain every Atari game I would want, such as Space Invaders, Pac Man, and many Activision games for Atari, but still a decent list of 60 games. Some of my favorites being Battlezone, Asteroids and Air-Sea Battle, plus some unrealeased games like Aquadventure. The quality of materials and construction is not the best, at least not like an original Atari, but for the price, it is okay. It is made by a Chinese manufacturer , AtGames. and licensed by Atari. My only complaints are that it has games that originally required the Atari paddle controllers such as Super Breakout , Night... BUT...they took out 3 of the best games! They took OFF the game system PITFALL, RIVER RAID and LUNAR LANDER, 3 of the best games found in Flashback 2.0 (but also NOT included in flashback 2+). A lot of the games are duds and homebrews but it also has many of the great Atari classics like Asteroids, Missile Command, Battle Zone, Adventure as well as the Real Sports series. I really wish they'd have included the Atari 5200 and.or 7800 games, those were awesome, why it's just the old Atari games we find nastolgic? I am not sure. Plus I really wish they included the arcade hits like Pac-man, Defender, Zaxxon, ect and the Activision games, I understand it's due to licensing but I mean COME ON! Would upgrading from the basic five-button RB guitar to this Pro Guitar be worth the significant price tag? 2. If I owned this would I be able to learn how to play guitar from RB3? Short Answers: 1. Yes 2. Mostly Long Answers: 1. Like everyone else who ever played guitar/bass on Rock Bandbefore this came out, I have always played with the basic five-button strum bar controller. I most always had fun playing with this controller, occaisonally I would lose myself in the music, and feel like I was actually making the music with an instrument. However, the basic controller always has an arcade game vibe to it - and this would sometimes deminish the experience. The new Pro Guitar controller definitely takes the Rock Band experience to a whole new level. MadCatz did an excellent job designing the guitar and Harmonix did an excellent job... For the price difference, I wouldn't consider the step down to non-pro unless you're just ordering it for a kid who doesn't care (no kids here). But even then... I think the training portion of Rock Band 3 alone makes the extra $$$ worth spending on this pro version just in case they might take to learning a few chords and graduate to a real starter guitar (not at all inconceivable). My friend who plays a little was really impressed by its training value, and even took out his real guitar to play along with songs so I could see and hear the difference and appreciate what I was learning while playing a game. Pros: You can actually learn to play guitar. Really. Chords and all. Cons: You can actually build-up calluses on your fingers if you press too hard and play too long. Was it worth the wait? Yes!! I am a medium level Rock Band 3 and a Medium-Low level Guitar Hero Player. I wanted to step it up and this was the way to go. The cons... Does not appear to work with Guitar Hero games. The Frets are spaced father apart than my old Guitar. Because of this you have to re-learn how to play a bit. The pros. It feels good and plays well. Also the biggest plus is that I am now really learning the Electric guitar (in Pro Mode). Someday I will get a real guitar but for now this Axe fits the bill real fine.
