Product Description

Azel and Sonia are two lifelong friends enjoying a tranquil life on Finith island until they're struck by a mysterious curse. They awaken to find both of their souls trapped in the same body! On top of that, the Finith they knew is gone, and in its place is a strange island populated with unfamiliar faces. Only by exploring this new world will they be able to solve the mystery of this curse that has befallen them. I normally wait to buy new video games, but as a huge fan of Rune Factory Frontier (over 200 hours), I just couldn't wait to begin with this new title in the series. I'm just barely getting started, only about 3 hours in, but here are my early impressions: See later comments at the bottom, too - I'm now about 25 hours in)

Pros:
Gorgeous scenery and graphics: Have you ever wished you could live in one of those quaint Greek villages perched on the side of a cliff overlooking the Mediterranean? Here's your chance. I only wonder why Aden's villa doesn't have windows facing the sea. He definitely needs to look into cutting a couple. The scenery is amazing!

Lots of interesting characters: These folks have a lot more to say for themselves than in RFF. Some of them seem a little silly to me, and a couple are downright creepy, but few are boring. I think I'm going to love all the requests, too. It gives me a lot more reason to want to actually run around... Read more

After playing well over 30 hours already on this game, I feel I've adequately explored enough of it to write a critical review. I'm not going to belabour over the story or waste time explaining it, you can easily get it elsewhere. I'm rather going to do a comparison review between Tides of Destiny and Frontier, the previous Wii in the series.
To start off with, let's go straight to the biggest change of all: Farming. In Rune Factory: Frontier, you had a more active role by clearing out your land for crops, plowing the land, seeding the land, watering the crops and finally harvesting them. Sure you eventually got animals to do the dirty work for you so it was less manual labor, but you felt a sense of satisfaction when you finally got your paycheck from Rosetta at 5 PM every day. In Tides of Destiny, its a more streamlined affair. Once you revive one of four 'dead/petrified' islands, you are then free to wave your magic stick and plant seedlings. I was kind of hesitant about purchasing a game without any reviews but I am glad that I did. I bought the game for my daughter because we really enjoyed Rune Factory Frontier. For those who have not played the Rune Factory games before, they focus on a mix of adventuring, farming, crafting items, and building relationships with the people in your town. Although there is fighting, there is no blood, or gore. It is a pretty good adventuring game for kid who can read big words, or for adults who have a low tolerance for violence.

First the bad:
We faced a few disappointments in the beginning, but those were quickly forgotten about once the real game started. My daughter was initially disappointed that she could not choose to play the female protagonist, and once again was forced to play the male character. Also, the introduction to the game is painfully long and slow. The first day of the game will take about an hour to play through.
